Samburu National Reserve, located north of Laikipia, is made up of scrubby, open bush land and savanna, with a fringe riverine forest of acacias and giant doum palms running along the margin of the Ewaso Ngiro. Samburu National Reserve has various attractions aside from the abundant wildlife that can be viewed there…

The Samburu 5 can be seen. While the larger and more common creatures (such as elephants, giraffes, and big cats) can be seen on a regular basis within the reserve, guests have the unique opportunity to witness the Samburu Five – five uncommon and exclusive to the Samburu habitat. These include the reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, gerenuk, Beisa oryx, and others.
Grevy’s zebra.
You can visit the Samburu Tribe, who, like the Masai, are nomadic pastoralists who move from one location to another in search of fresh pasture and water for their livestock. The Samburu Tribe is easily recognized because they dress brightly and colorfully, and the women adorn themselves with beaded necklaces and jewelry.
The scenery in the park is stunning. The river Ewaso Ngiro runs through the park and contrasts with the dry, arid desert-like soil that glows bright red in the African sun.
In Samburu, there are some truly stunning camps. Elephant Bedroom Camp, located within the national reserve, is ideal for those seeking a traditional tented camp in the center of the game (called after the elephant).
Outside of the park, Sasaab and Saruni Samburu provide maximum luxury amid pristine environments.
Staying outside the national reserve, such as Saruni Samburu in the Kalama Conservancy, allows you to participate in a variety of activities that are only available in conservancies. Night wildlife drives, guided bush walks, trekking excursions, trips to local Samburu caves with historical rock art, traditional village tours, and warriors academy are among the activities available.
